Start preview recordings in the background

Lets a native desktop preview recording start when the capture host is locked or its display is off and the normal video source cannot start. The fork keeps capture tied to the requesting preview tab and falls back to recording its page frames after a native NotReadableError. Stop releases the capture resources as usual. This fixes starting a new recording; it does not establish that an existing recording survives every lock or display transition.

This fork

  1. Preview loaded

A native desktop preview tab is already loaded while the host is unlocked and its display is on.

  2. Host locked, display off

The human locks the capture host and turns its display off. The same preview tab stays loaded.

  3. Recording requested

Start arms capture for the requesting preview tab without presenting or focusing the window.

  4. Native video acquisition fails

The native video source rejects acquisition with NotReadableError: Could not start video source.

  5. Page frames become video

The fork falls back to native page images, decodes them into the recording canvas, and starts recording changing frames from the same tab.

  6. Stop completes the recording

Stop ends the fallback and releases its capture resources. The recorded video can be saved.

Video saved. Capture resources released.

  2. Host locked, display off

  3. Recording requested

Start attempts to acquire the native video source for the preview.

  4. Native video acquisition fails

The native video source rejects acquisition with NotReadableError: Could not start video source.

  5. Startup ends in an error

The acquisition error ends startup. There is no page-frame fallback to supply video.

  6. No recording produced

The failed attempt has no recorded video to return.

No video to save.

Illustrated startup of a new native desktop recording after the host is locked with its display off. Only the native NotReadableError takes this fallback path. The sequence does not claim that a running recording survives system sleep or every display transition. Agent browser automation uses a separate environment-server path.
